Honorable Nestor F. Guzman, Sr., P.J.S.C. (Ret)
Of CounselIn 1988, he was sworn to the Municipal Court Bench of the City of Paterson. In doing so, he became the first individual of Latin descent to be confirmed to this position. He would eventually become the Presiding Judge of the Paterson Municipal Court.
While sitting on the bench in Paterson, he was an integral part of the city's truancy program, earning awards from the local community.
As a result of these efforts, he was profiled by CBS News' Ed Bradley on the nationally televised news magazine "Street Stories," for the programs that he established to help children and improve the quality of life in Paterson.
Judge Guzman was appointed to the Superior Court Bench of Passaic County in 1993, becoming the county's first appointment of Latin descent. While sitting in Passaic County, Judge Guzman served as Presiding Judge of the Family Division in Passaic County, and retired after 20 years of service in 2013.
During his tenure, he served in all of the Divisions within the Passaic Vicinage, and received numerous honors for respected civic legal organizations.
Judge Guzman hails from Paterson, New Jersey and graduated from Eastside High School. Recently, he was inducted into the School’s Hall of Fame. He is Of Counsel to the Firm and concentrates his practice in mediation, arbitration and complex litigation.
